The Bathing House

The ‘Iconic’ Bathing House, once the seaside retreat for the British Prime Minister Charles Grey and his family.

Today, a sought after destination for a family or a group of friends wanting to escape to the Northumberland Heritage Coastline, the Grade II listed Bathing House will not disappoint as it sits, secluded on the edge of the cliff with steps down to the rocky shore below.

Accommodation on two floors, historic features preserved, large sash windows flood the rooms with light and the ever-changing views of the sea and coastlines.

The Parr's - October 2025 "A fabulous house to stay in, above all for its magnificent location so near the sea. Inside it’s warm and cosy even in strong winds and rain. Highly recommended."

The Campbells and Schillingers - October 2025 "Stunning weather - not a single rainy day and plenty of sunshine. As always a haven of relaxation and tranquility in a busy world."

The Schillingers - October 2025 "A magical place. What a speacial house to stay in. We feel privalidged to have spent time in this beautiful part of the country."

The Blooms - September 2025 "Mixed week weather wise. Always fabulous here - we have lost count of our stays. Back again in November.

The Bryce Family - August / September 2025 "The house was like a cosy farmhouse. We knew it would be good, but it was everything and more than we hoped."

The Smelts - August 2025 "Our first time at the Bathing House and what an amazing week. The house was amazing and so relaxing. Loved the incredible views, couldn't get enough of them. We were constantly gazing out to sea, we saw dolphins and plenty of birds, loved the swallows nesting in the doorway and seeing them on the edge of their nests. Looking forward to Christmas 2026."

The Lowes - August 2025 "Another amazing stay. Thank you! This place is very special - see you next year!"

The Ushers - July 2025 "What a wonderful spot - the week started off with swimming and dolphin spotting and continued with rock pooling, crabbing, more swimming and gazing out of the windows at the spectacular views! Thank you!"

The Wadsworths - July 2025 "Super week, thouroughly enjoyed every moment. Booked for two weeks next year!! House is looked after with much care. Lovely to see!"

The Townsends and Roberts - June 2025 "We've had a magical week here at the Bathing House - the best place in the world. The swallows fledged on Thursday, we saw dolphins and seals, low flying jets and even the Police Diving Team. Thank you!"

The Andrews - June 2025 "Another glorious week in theis fabulous house watching the sea birds and dolphons. An added bonus has been watching the swallow chicks grow over the course of a week. The permissive footpath from Howick Haven to Longhoughton was a new to us and makes a good round walk back vis Howdiemont beach. Back in September!"

Altman and King - May 2025 "Another lovely week at the Bathing House! Windy, very big waves but dry all week!! Family and friends visiting spotted dolphons at 5pm swimming north on Sunday. Also saw a seal around the rocks. House was spotless when we arrived, Thank you. Booked for next year!"

Rose Family - April 2025 "We had such an amazing stay at The Bathing House. We were thrilled to see dolphins and seals from the kitchen window, we enjoyed stargazing and aurora spotting and loved being able to visit Howick Hall and Gardens with the free pass. It is such a special house, steeped in history, in a very special part of the world."

Meg - February 2025 "A beautiful property in a prime location. There is something magical about staying somewhere so close to the sea where you can hear the waves. The house is well equipped, spacious and has stunning views. The log burner was great as it was a cold week in February for us and kept us toasty!"

Newton Family - December 2024 "This property is magical. The cliffside location is breathtaking but, despite this splendid isolation, one doesnt suffer any deprivation as the Housekeeping Department has thoughtfully provided every last little thing visitors might possibly need. Add to this the fast fibre broadband and the unexpected smart tv, and one really has the best of all worlds here. We stayed for the Christmas week, all cosy and snug, but we imagine the property would be equally fabulous during the Summer months as, again, the Housekeeping Department have provided for every need - we spotted deckchairs, a barbecue, charcoal and lots of trays to ferry food out to the lawn area. Our week flew past too quickly. We will be back! Our week flew by all too quickly and we were sad to leave."
