Blacksmiths Cottage
Blacksmith’s Cottage, once the ‘Smithy’ for the Earls Grey and Howick Estate.
Three generations of the Ainslie family worked the forge, giving the Estate continuous service for almost a century, Walter, being the last one until 1932. Within a further generation the clanging of the hammer on the anvil fell silent.
The cottage today has been completely renovated and extended, keeping the heart of the forge within the dining room, it brings you five star accommodation set within the peaceful location, surrounded partly by leafy woodland and partly by open farm views. Guests also have the benefit of direct walking access into Howick Hall Gardens and Arboretum where they can pick up the path (The Long Walk) direct to the sea.

Sunroom/Lounge with ample comfy seating, large ultra HD Smart TV, coffee table and access to the enclosed front garden.
Cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin.
Bedroom 3 with two single beds or super king size bed, side cabinets, dresser and hanging space.
Family bathroom with bath, separate shower, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail; also benefits from under floor heating.
One step down to:
Bedroom two, compact, with king size bed and bedside tables, dresser and en-suite shower room with shower cubicle, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.
Master bedroom with large coach window and access to the garden and patio; with super king size bed or two single beds, bedside cabinets, dresser, seating and hanging space with en-suite bathroom with bath, separate shower, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail; also benefits from under floor heating.
Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer with access to the garden.

All bed linen and towels provided with anti-allergy duvets and pillows.
Hairdryer provided in each room.
Travel cot and highchair available on request.

Wood burning stove laid for your arrival, a basket of logs supplied and additional logs can be supplied.

2 well behaved dogs are welcome with a charge of £25.00 per dog, per week or short break.
Private enclosed garden with furniture to the front.
Large garden to the side and rear with a south-facing summer-house, table and chairs on patio by the Master bedroom.

The addition of the outside hose is so helpful to wash the sand and mud off both dogs and humans. Access to the arboretum is a real bonus with walks to the coastal path and deserted beaches. Anna made us feel so welcome and we have already rebooked to bring our family and grandchildren in May. This really has everything we look for in a holiday cottage and we couldn’t ask for more."
